Step Forward Project – Funded by MOPAC

MOPAC have funded The Selby Trust's HEY Network to run the 'Step Forward' volunteering project.

Step Forward aims to find local volunteers who wish to give time to help young people in Enfield and Haringey. Volunteers will be given a full induction, on going training and be placed in one of the activities funded by the Young Londoners Fund in Enfield or Haringey.

Serious Youth Violence and our young people being exploited by criminal gangs is a concern for many people in the community and people want to do something to help. This volunteer programme allows residents to step forward, get training and help young people in a range of projects around both boroughs. Our young people need all the support we adults can give - Seema Chandwani, HEY Network Coordinator

Who can be a volunteer? Anyone over 21 who passes an enhanced DBS check (provided)

Do I need experience?: We all have experience whether with our own children or siblings, or our own lived experiences. It's your personal qualities we are looking for - are you someone who cares about young people and their future?

How long do I have to commit? We would like for you to commit for as long as possible, however we request you give a minimum of 3 months. It's really important that young people have consistency and time to build trusting relationships

I have no training... We will provide you with a full induction, including safeguarding, you will receive on going training opportunities and you will be working alongside experienced staff. Induction training is on Saturday 20th March 2021 (all day)

Will the training be face to face or online: Due to COVID restrictions, the induction training will be online. As restrictions ease and it is safe to do so, we will be reintroducing face to face training.

I want to be a volunteer but I am shielding / clinically extremely vulnerable. Can I still apply? Absolutely, you can still participate in the online training, but not start your placement until restrictions are lifted and/or you feel safe.
